My name is Lyvia Zenger and I have been dancing for 11 years....5 of those were spent comparing myself to others, feeling intimidated, doubting myself, and lacking true confidence.
I believed I didn't have a shot at being the dancer I always wanted to be. That made my journey feel very frustrating and I struggled to maintain my love for dance.
It wasn't until I discovered the details of Ballroom dance, or the small things that I could control, that I found hope. Bringing the attention back to myself made me see realize that all those years spent feeling AWFUL about myself were my choice. I had decided to neglect my mindset and I had chosen to feel insecure.
No person or thing had made me feel anything. It was my fault.
I had been placing blame on other people for my lack of success in Ballroom.
I had chosen to believe I wasn't confident.
Now....you might be wondering why this realization brought me hope.
Well, since it was my choice to unconsciously sabotage my own success, I could also chose to live in a different way and change the way things were.
If I wanted to dance like a champion, I could do that. If I wanted to look like a professional, why should anything stop me? If I wanted to believe that I was the best in the world, I could. I no longer had to maintain my current mindset or belief system.
That's when I became obsessed with the details and learning exactly how to achieve those things.
I began experimenting, studying, and learning how to become a great Ballroom Dancer and how to achieve the championship level I WANTED. My coach encouraged me to reach out to the dancers I had been comparing myself to and find out what they were doing to be successful. Although it terrified me, I ended up interviewing 12 of the top female dancers in the United States and asking them detailed questions about their mindset, practice, confidence, and competition preparation.
